Drunken noodles (or Pad Kee Mao, less frequently Pad Ki Mao or Pad Kimao, Lao: ຜັດຂີ້ເມົາ; Thai: ผัดขี้เมา,RTGS: phat khimao, [pʰàt kʰîːmaw]) is a Chinese-influenced dish that was made popular by the Chinese people living in Laos and Thailand. It is a stir fried noodle dish very similar to Phat Si Io, but with a slightly different flavor profile. It is made with broad rice noodles, soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, meat or tofu, bean sprouts, and various seasonings. Chili and basil give rise to its distinctive spiciness. Drunken fried rice or khao phat khimao is a similar dish.
Enjoy authentic Thai cuisine served up by the Hui family that has been serving the Durham/RTP area for over 20 years. Thai Lanna, a Mom and Pop restaurant located in a small shopping center called Greenwood Commons, started May of 2004. It is the sister restaurant to Fortune Garden. Unfortunately, this past August 2006, the family sold Fortune Garden and are now devoting their time passionately to operating Thai Lanna.
Thai Lanna has exceptionally different flavors then Fortune Garden. Where Fortune Garden was more of a fusion between Chinese and Thai spices, created by Ming Hui, Thai Lanna’s cuisines are completely the essence of Northern Thailand. The owner, Ratana Hui, who is a native to Northern Thailand, brought these fabulous tastes to the RTP area for all to come and enjoy. Some of these extraordinary seasonings are straight from Ratana’s garden, where she grows fresh herbs and Thai chili peppers. She loves serving homemade Thai concoctions that have been passed down by generations.
